sigh

It’s funny how when you plan or tell yourself that things have to go a certain way how they can suddenly veer in the opposite direction. I had big plans for this weekend. It was supposed to involve lots of gleeful snuggling/cuddling and loving before Ravi moves back to Seattle (thousands of miles away from me) and then a few days later hops on a plane to spend a month in India (where will barely be able to talk). Instead the weekend was filled with lots of tears, one night of sleeping on the couch and just to top it off I seriously burnt two of my fingertips baking cookies tonight and I cant take them off of the cold bag of peas.

oh well.

at least there is Dingo and Penny on green.

Thriftin’

Thrifted Cups

I love when good thrifting happens. I had been checkin’ out some melemite dishes on Ebay for a few days, but figured I might run into some at the thrift store. Little did I know! I found some at Goodwill first but it was way overpriced (even though it was orange and REALLY hard to resist.) I found these cups (there were four blue ones in total) at a church owned thrift store for 25 cents each. Score! Now I need bowls and plates! And more cups! I’m trying to get prepared to move into my own studio at the beginning of March. My current place I shared with a girl who had lots of dishes, but the new place I will be on my own so I will need my own stuff.

Thrifted Candle holder

And here is thrift store score number two! After watching Northanger Abbey a few weeks ago I couldn’t get these adorable candlesticks with the finger grip out of my head! I scoured e-bay for a reasonably priced one, but couldn’t settle… then at the Goodwill here was the absolute perfect one. It was kind of expensive for the goodwill.. ( four dollars I think…) but worth every penny!

Orange Felt Tripod Also be sure to check out my shop! I’ve updated it with a few new plushies and more are on the way… including some belated Valentines Squids.. :)

new blog

Aren't we cute? :D

Happy belated Valentines Day and welcome to my new blog.

I was driving down Swan the other day, back towards the city (we had been up in the foothills at the “Nice Safeway”) and Tucson was all lit up and looking lovely, at which point I commented, “The city is pretty…” followed by a little sigh. And there you have it.

For V-Day Ravi and I headed out to the Biosphere 2 (about 20 miles outside of Tucson… remember the movie Biodome with Polly Shore?) The inside was kind of disappointing, but we had a good time anyway. There was some pretty awesome parts too.

Dog at the Biosphere

Take for example this amazing dog that was hanging out at the Biosphere. It had no collar, but the people who worked there seemed to think it belonged to someone living nearby. I wanted to take her home so bad, she was amazing. I fell in love a little bit.

I made finger sandwiches and homemade chocolate chip cookies, which we enjoyed on the ride home because we were super hungry and for once it was cold in Tucson which made picnicking seem a little undesirable. In any event, we enjoyed ourselves anyway. Later on we went to Govindas for dinner, which turned out to be Vegan Night…. heh… One of the items was “Neat Loaf”… The food was pretty good though, there was some guy sitting in the other room singing Hare Krishna and telling some story about a overweight black lady with her hands in the air, “Hallelujah, Hare Krishna…”

Hmmmm…

oh dear

Oh dear

(do my eyes look green in this photo? Hmmmph! They are most certainly gray and often quite blue!)

Lovely things that happened today: while searching for an adventure happened upon a monthly antique fair out in the boondocks. Perused said fair, got a flyer for a toy fair coming up soon. Later headed to a huge book sale, which was having a half price day. Came home with about 15 books for $9.75, all this after a tasty breakfast with my dear Ravi.

Not so lovely things: walk away with nothing from the antique fair, especially when I went back looking for the perfect deer figurine I saw and finding it GONE! I couldn’t believe I didn’t even ask how much it was the first time around. SIGH.

Last time I was in Phoenix I happened upon an amazing indie toy store called Red Hot Robot. I spoke to the owner a little and took his business card so I could send him a few images of my work and see if he was keen. And yay, he was! He was up in Tucson this weekend so I was able to hand deliver the items for his store. Hopefully they sell and I can send more. If you’re in the area you have to check his store out, so many amazing things. He also features local artists, and has shows and openings in his store. :)

Here are the plush I sent him:
